4 Brians, Famous Phoebe, RIMBA Bash, My Life’s Work

I’m departing briefly from my sanctuary project to write again about the single life, and other stuff too.

Seems someone(s) on Facebook is sending me “Why are you still single?” apps, and though I don’t know what this is, I do know that I don’t need any kind of “app” for that.  I know why I’m single.  And I don’t need to broadcast that on Facebook; I can do it here.

I’ve had 3 dates with 3 different men named Brian in the past 2 months.  Especially odd is that, and as some of you may know, my last relationship was with a Brian so that makes 4.  I joke that I’m now looking for an Adam.  It’s not really funny, but I do love that name.

Aside from 3 dates with 3 Brians, I’ve also quit my job.  When Phoebe hit the bigtime with this video I figured at any minute Hollywood would be calling.  I envisioned George Clooney, signing bonuses, and lifelong royalties.  Oh, well.

So I got another job with another agency doing the same damn thing. I start this Friday.

But don’t let my sarcasm fool you.  The job I’m about to leave is the longest running job I’ve had in 2 decades.  I’m packing my office today because all I could manage yesterday was some blank staring at the contents –books, games, artwork from kids I’ve worked with, photographs, trinkets, more books.  Two supervisors begged me to stay…”it’s not too late,” they both said.  I’ve doubted my own decision countless times, but 3 years with 1 employer is a milestone for me and in this profession change is appropriate even beneficial.

My Note from the Universe is shockingly apropos sometimes; here’s this morning’s:  “When just starting out on a new journey, Emily, it’s only natural to feel vulnerable. After all, it may seem that you have much to lose. But may I remind you that never again, at any other point in your journey, will you have so much to gain as you will if you start today tomorrow?”

Also tomorrow is the Kick-Off Bash for our newly formed Roanoke “International Mountain Bicyling Association,” or RIMBA.  I’ve never been on the board of anything ’til now and I have to say I kinda like it.  It’s given me a sense of self-importance that I don’t have at any other time except when feeding the dogs.  I’m the token female in the group too which, as you might know from reading about biking adventures, I love.  Urban dictionary says the token female, “… lends some semblance of normality, but can put up with a lot of crazy behavior, and even participates in it to a point.”  And that sounds about right.  My life’s work (for the next few years anyway).

An advantage of going out on a date with me is that you would not have problems with name duplicity. I guarantee that you’d have a hard time finding someone likable with my first name. So what says you?
